Sarries win thriller to retain Champions Cup

Saracens 28-17 Clermont: Sarries win thriller to retain Champions Cup

It was one of the greatest ever European finals and from it Saracens cemented their place as one of the greatest English clubs sides of the professional era as Mark McCall's side clinched a thrilling victory against a Clermont side who oozed class and courage but in the end did not have enough firepower or wherewithal to stop their opponents' relentless march for more silverware.

The defending English champions were well on top during the first half, with George Kruis adding to Chris Ashton’s record-breaking try – although Remi Lamerat’s score kept Clermont in it at 12-7.

And despite Nick Abendanon’s try making it a one-point game at 15-14, the Wolfpack kept on hammering away and Alex Goode’s try meant Sarries could pop the champagne at the final whistle.
