BLK commits to Queensland Rugby for a further five years

Queensland Rugby Union today announced apparel partner BLK has committed to a five-year contract extension ahead of the 2017 season.

The deal will see BLK remain with QRU until 2021, meaning the two organisations will have forged a decade-long relationship.

BLK’s partnership with QRU also extends well beyond the boundaries of the Reds, providing high quality apparel for junior and senior clubs, QRU pathway programs and schools as part of QRU’s aggregation model, which allows partners to access the scale and volume of the entire Queensland Rugby community.

Today’s announcement follows on from the unprecedented success of the St.George Queensland Reds ‘Million Dollar Jersey’ campaign, which was launched earlier this year to unveil the innovative new jersey design created by BLK for the Reds ahead of the current Super Rugby season.

BLK CEO Tyron Brant said: “The re-signing of the Reds and Queensland Rugby is a reflection of the strength of the partnership that has been built over a number of years in Queensland. A key feature in the arrangement is to ensure that clubs and schools also benefit from the partnership and it is something that both Queensland Rugby and BLK are fully committed to.

“This is a true partnership and BLK look forward to working with the Queensland Rugby Union on the journey ahead.”

QRU CEO Jim Carmichael said: “We’re pleased to be able to continue our long-standing relationship with BLK. Our two organisations have a deep understanding of each other’s business and have worked well together for many years.

“As important to our relationship is that BLK understand Queensland Rugby is not just about the Reds, it is about all of the Rugby stakeholders in Queensland, from grassroots to professional.

“We look forward to continuing to collaborate with BLK on exciting projects in the future.”

Note to editors: The ‘Million Dollar Jersey’ campaign was spearheaded by a unique TVC produced in-house by Queensland Rugby’s RED Creative team, which has been credited with creating significant awareness of the Reds’ 2016 strip.
